Hi, it’s Tuesday!
In a beautiful twist of fate, my cat is also named Tuesday. She has no creative pursuits but she is genuinely so good at licking her own holes. Here she is:
Last week, I wrote about the difficulties of keeping your body functional whilst in the throes of creative intensity. When the going gets tough—maybe you’re on a tight deadline, maybe you’re bummed out from a creative setback—our physical health is often the first thing to go. I mean, my god, think about Michelangelo’s post-Sistine neck pain. It’s a true miracle that the dude lived to 88. He didn’t even have protein powder, just a slab of marble to use as a foam roller :(
In that spirit, this week’s interview features someone who recently underwent a very, very intense creative period: author and humor writer Danielle Kraese, who wrote her newest book in just 22 days via a quick-turn publishing commission.
A reminder that Q&As are a benefit for paid subscribers. If that’s you, thank you so much for supporting this project. And if you’re hungry for the Q&As but not able to pay at this time, feel free to shoot me an email and we’ll work something out. <3
Danielle Kraese wrote a book in 22 days and didn’t even die
I’m so excited to share this week’s interview with Danielle Kraese, the author of two literal physical books that you can hold in your sweet little hands. Danielle had roughly three weeks to write her latest book in its entirety—all 7,000 very funny words of it, written on commission from Smith Street Books. She also has a demanding day job as the senior commerce editor at BDG (formerly Bustle Digital Group).
Read on as I grill Danielle about writing on commission, wrangling tough deadlines and advocating for yourself in the publishing world.
